THE ELKO INDEPENDENT, Nevada, Dec. 23, 1871

* Wild Old West
* Rare publication

This town had a population of about 2000 during the late 19th century. Situated along the Humboldt River, Elko was along the route traveled by the ill-fated Donner Party and the many who ventured to the California hills in search of gold during the 1849 gold rush. Completion of the Central Pacific Railroad gave the "official" birth to the town in 1868.
A page 2 article: "Another Convict Killed" has much detail. Complete in 4 pages, never bound nor trimmed, very nice condition.
