The front page features a print headed: "Werze, The Andersonville Demon", being the infamous Henry Wirz, the warden of the Andersonville prison camp who supervised the horrible treatment of Yankee prisoners. He would be found guilty & was executed, one of only two people convicted for war crimes during the American Civil War.
Quite rare to find a period portrait of him in a newspaper. Various front page column heads relating to the Civil War.
Eight pages, nice condition.
