THE DAILY JOURNAL, Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, July 16, 1892 The front page has a half column report headed: "DARING TRAIN ROBBERS" "They Whipped a Sheriff's Posse and Stole Over $50,000" "The Dalton Gang Did It" "When the Train Stopped a Pitcher Battle Took Place--The Robbers Threatened to Dynamite the Express Messenger and He Opened His Doors".
On July 14 the Dalton Gang made its last train robbery at Adair, Indian Territory. They made such quick & quiet work that the deputies--who were on the train--didn't realize it was being robbed until the job was nearly completed. The robbery was followed by a fierce but brief gun battle with the bandits, during which an innocent bystander was killed. The Dalton Gang escaped unharmed with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Four pages, archivally rejoined at the irregular spine, chipping and minor tears at margins, somewhat fragile and should be handled carefully.
