Civil War news from the Confederate capital...

Item # 694216

January 30, 1864

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Jan. 30, 1864  A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederate states, the city through which all important war news flowed.
Among front page items are: "From the Blackwater Region" "The Senate Military Bill" "Re-Organization of the Army" "The North Carolina Frontier--An Incident" "Disabled Soldiers" "On A Strike" "The New Conscription" "The Yankee Deserter" "The Prices of Servant Hire..." "From Charleston--From Vicksburg--From East Tennessee" and other items as well.
The back page includes a lengthy editorial, which is always interesting reading. One portion of it begins: "Unconscious as the Yankees are, they have conscience enough left to make cowards of them; and perhaps the most pitiable example of that cowardice is the dread which they entertain of the Confederate prisoners whom the fortune of war has thrown into their hands..." with much more on this. The back page also has much reporting from the "Confederates Congress" as well as "The Virginia Legislature".
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead, light damp stain at the top, minor wear at the margins, never bound nor trimmed so margins are wide, good condition.

Item from Catalog 354 (released for May 2025)
