DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Feb. 8, 1864 A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederate, the city to which all war news would flow.
The front page includes: "The Enemy Across the Rapid Ann--His Partial Repulse" "The War News--Richmond Threatened By the Enemy--The Yankees In Large Force at Talleysville" "A Tale of Horrour--Two Cavalrymen Murdered by Negro Soldiers" "Supplies in the Southwest" "The New Bern Affair" "Suspension of the Habeas Corpus" "Discovery of an Alleged Plot to Liberate the Prisoners & Assassinate the President--Arrest of the Ringleaders & Seizure of Documents" "A Soldier Shot Dead by a Comrade While Skylarking with Muskets" and other items as well.
The back page includes the always interesting editorial, this one having a piece beginning: "Re-enlistments progress slowly in the Yankee camps. They have been surprisingly numerous & enthusiastic in ours..." with much more concerning enlistments.
The back page also has much from: "The Confederate Congress" and reports from "The Virginia Legislature" "From Mississippi--The Enemy Advancing In Force--Sharp Fighting--From Charleston--Movements on the Rapid Ann--General Rosser's Expedition to Hardy County--Capture of Cattle, Sheet, Yankees, Mules" which includes a letter signed in type by: R. E. Lee.
