Item # 694166

April 28, 1864

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, April 28, 1864  Not just a nice newspaper from the Confederacy, but a nice issue from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page includes: "The War News" "The Five Dollar Notes" "City Intelligence" "The Health of the City" "Rencounter With Chicken Thieves" and more.
Nearly two columns on the back page are taken up with the always-interesting editorial. A few bits include: "...In this brief review of Lincoln's speech we will not stop to analyze his apologue of the sheep & the wolf; the sheep the negro & the wolf the negro's master...evident that Lincoln's heart was not in his introductory congratulations to 'these many people'..." and much more. A portion of the editorial talks of the value of Southern cotton.
Also on the back page are: "Latest News From the North--From the Army of the Potomac--The Affair At Plymouth--Further Particulars of the Battle in Louisiana--From the West" "From Charleston" "Immense Debt of the North--Interesting Statistics--What the War Has Cost..." "From Northern Virginia--From Trans-Mississippi--From the Southwest" "Killing Them Off" and more.
