January 13, 1863

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Jan. 13, 1863  Not just a nice Confederate newspaper, but from the capital of the Confederacy through which all important war news and reports would flow.
The front page has: "City Intelligence" and a lengthy: "Complimentary Serenade To General Floyd". Also: "The Northern Congress--Vote of Thanks to Generals Rosencranz and Butler--Exciting Debate In the House--The Lie Given".
The back page has a lengthy editorial that focuses partially on the Confederate financial situation. One bit notes: "...Under the impression that the war would last less than a year, the Confederacy has attempted to live without loans and without taxes, on the sole support of paper money guaranteed by the people's faith in its future success, wealth, and honesty...". The bkpg. also has: "The Confederate Congress" and "The Virginia Legislature" and some war-related reports under: "Telegraphic News--Latest News From the North".
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead, nice condition.
