Sentenced for involvement in the Rye House Plot...

December 14, 1685

THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, Dec. 14, 1685   The front page begins with a report from Jamaica noting impart: "We have now a second confirmation of the news from the South Seas, that the Privateers there are in great distress; their return home by land is cut off by the Indians deserting them, and their vessels are not sufficient...to carry them about by sea...".
The back page has a report from London noting: "...Charles Bateman was brought to his trial...upon an indictment f High Treason for conspiring with other false traitors the death of the late King of Ever Blessed Memory, and to raise a rebellion within this kingdom, of which he was upon  full evidence found guilty, and this day received sentence of death, as in cases of High Treason." Meaning he would be hanged till near-death, then drawn open, then quartered. This was for his involvement in the Rye House Plot.
A single sheet newspaper, 6 1/2 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
