Three centerfold Civil War prints... Great Lincoln cartoon...
Item # 689136
May 03, 1862
FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED along with the "WAR SUPPLEMENT" issue, New York, May 3, 1862 The "regular" issue has front page prints on "The War in S. Carolina" and "The Campaign in Virginia"
Inside has full page prints: "War In Virginia--Advance of the Union Army...Towards Yorktown..." and "...Arrival of General McClellan...To Take Personal Command of the Union Army...". Also a great doublepage centerfold: "The War on the Mississippi--The Rebel Forces...Surrendering to Gen. Paine...at Tiptonville, Tenn." Many more Civil War prints as well.
The "War Supplement" issue has two front page prints of "The War in Georgia--Surrender of Fort Pulaski...". Rather than the typical one doublepage centerfold, this issue has two (both tipped-in, meaning no binding holes): "The War In Georgia--Bombardment of Fort Pulaski" and below it: "The War in Georgia--Interior of Mortar Battery Stanton, Tybee Island...". The other centerfold shows: "War in the West--Scene at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee River...Just before the Arrival of Gen. Nelson's Division" showing much action. There are also two other pages with several war-related prints.
Also terrific is the back page political cartoon: "Sinbad Lincoln and the Old Man of the Sea" showing Abraham Lincoln with the 'old man' on his back.
Complete in 32 pages, some margin dirtiness to the front page, generally nice condition.
