September 18, 1769

THE BOSTON GAZETTE & COUNTRY JOURNAL, Sept. 18, 1769  The front page begins with a list of those who: "...audaciously counteracted the united sentiments of the body of merchants...by importing British goods contrary to the Agreement." meaning they broke the trust of the non-importation agreement.
This is followed by a half page report of: "Articles of Complaint Against Benjamin Barons, Collector of said Customers for the Port of Boston..." with a list of complaints against him relating to imports, etc. One noted is: "He hath stirred up & promoted in the merchants of Boston, who have hitherto in general been distinguished by their obedience to the Laws of Trade, a disposition not to submit to them any longer." and 6 more charges. Then a list of charges because: "...he hath raised a clamour against the said Charles Paxton on account of his diligence in preventing the illicit trade." with more.
NOTE: This is the front leaf only. The back leaf is lacking. Has a patriotic-themed engraving in the masthead, a design which one year later would be engraved by Paul Revere. Very light damp staining to the top quadrant, otherwise in very nice condition. Priced dramatically less than a complete issue.
