The Philadelphia Tea Party...

Item # 687212

January 14, 1774

CONNECTICUT JOURNAL & NEW HAVEN POST-BOY, Jan. 14, 1774  The front page has a report beginning: "We hear from Charles-Town [Charleston], South Carolina, that the sending back the tea ship having been by accident or design, delayed till the expiration of the 20 days after which by the act the duties are to become payable, the tea was then seized by the Custom-house Officers & landed in their custody..." with more detail.
Page 2 has a very significant, lengthy, & historic account that carries over to page 3, known as the Philadelphia Tea Party. Near the beginning: "The unanimity, spirit & zeal which have heretofore animated all the colonies from Boston to South Carolina have been so eminently displayed in the opposition to the pernicious project of the East India Company in sending Tea to America while it remains subject to a duty, and the Americans at the same time confined, by the strongest prohibitory laws, to import it only from Great Britain...".
The report goes on to detail the events of the Phila. Tea Party, mentioning the historic meeting on Dec. 27 and the list of Resolves which resulted from it, including: "1. RESOLVED, that the tea on board the ship Polly, Captain Ayres, shall not be landed...3. That Capt. Ayres shall carry back the tea immediately..." and more. Near the end is mention that, on Dec. 28: "...Captain Ayers left this city in a pilot boat in order to go on board his ship & proceed with the TEA immediately for England."
More tea-related content as well. Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, handsome engraving in the masthead, very nice condition.
