April 11, 1812

SALEM GAZETTE, Massachusetts, April 11, 1812

* Embargo Act
* War of 1812 prelude

Most of a page 2 column is taken up with the full printing of the historic: "EMBARGO LAW,
 An Act laying an Embargo on all the Ships and Vessels in the ports and harbors of the United States, for a limited time", signed in type by the President: James Madison.
Those opposed to the embargo considered it a prelude to armed conflict with Great Britain. In any case it was a notable document in the beginning of the War of 1812.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, browning at several margins, generally good condition.
