The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was signed into law on June 17, 1930, raising U.S. tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods to record levels. Over one thousand U.S. economists signed a petition against this legislation, and many countries retaliated with their own increased tariffs on U.S. goods. The Smoot-Hawley Act was considered a catalyst for the severe reduction in U.S.-European trade which accompanied the start of the Great Depression.
This is the "rag edition" printed exclusively for institutional holdings. Light damp stain at an upper corner, minor wear at margin, good condition.
