DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Feb. 21, 1853 The back page has: "From California" reports in part: "...that the Plains between Stockton & Fort Miller...are inundated. Rain had fallen for several weeks incessantly...many of the inhabitants...are represented to be in a famishing condition. Numerous families of emigrants had arrived through the Stockton Past...Their situation...is represented to be deplorable...The whole country is in a state of anxiety...".
