From Confederate New Orleans...

Item # 684487

March 16, 1861

NEW ORLEANS DAILY CRESCENT, Louisiana, March 16, 1861

* Rare Confederate title
* From the deep South
* Tensions brewing

Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city which surrendered without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
The ftpg. is filled with news including: "Convention of the State of Louisiana" "Later From Pike's Peak" "Texas State Convention" which includes a letter signed in type by: Sam Houston; "Latest From Southern Congress" "The Veto of President Davis" "Louisiana Legislature" "Local Intelligence" and more. Much of the inside is taken up with ads although there are news reports as well. Page 5 has 9 illustrated as for slaves for sale.
Eight pages, irregular at the spine margin with minor loss, some minor wear to the other margins.
