Battle of Antietam & Harper's Ferry, in a Confederate newspaper...

Item # 702906

September 23, 1862

THE TRI-WEEKLY MERCURY, Charleston, South Carolina, Sept. 23, 1862

* Rare from the Confederacy
* Battle of Antietam - Sharpsburg

Given the date, it is not surprising that the front page has an account of the Battle of Antietam, or as referred to by the Confederates: the Battle of Sharpsburg. And great to have this report in a Confederate newspaper.
Almost a full column is headed: "From Our Army In Maryland--The Battle of Sharpsburg & Fall of Harper's Ferry", with a subhead: "The Surrender of Harper's Ferry--Further Particulars".
Also on the front page: "The War in Kentucky--The Panic In Cincinnati--'Skedaddling' out of the City...". The First Entry Into Frederick--Interesting Description" and more.
The back page includes: "The Great Battle of Sharpsburg - Movements of Lee" "The War In Kentucky" "The Capture of Harper's Ferry--Further Particulars of Our Victory In Maryland".
Folio size, complete as a single sheet newspaper, wide margins, good condition.
