EVENING TRIBUNE, San Diego, California, March 29, 1915
* Naval Base San Diego to be created
* United States Navy picks S.D.
* Best title to be had ? - very rare
The banner headline announces one of the early events in the life of San Diego as a significant naval base, which today is home base for the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet.
"NAVY DEPARTMENT TO BUILD BIG BASE IN SAN DIEGO" with a subhead: "Assistant Secretary Roosevelt Announces Plan For Depot Here". History tells us that during Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt's visit to San Diego, city officials told him the Navy can get much land at little or no cost to expand. And the rest is history.
Also of curious interest is a large photo of Mrs. Thomas Marshall, wife of the Vice President, headed: "Vice President's Wife Thinks Women Not Needed In Politics".
Complete in 14 pages, light library stamp in the masthead, small binding indents at the spine, very nice condition.
