The Gettysburg Address...
Item # 681893
November 20, 1863
THE SPRINGFIELD DAILY REPUBLICAN, Massachusetts, Nov. 20, 1863
* President Abraham Lincoln's famous speech
* Gettysburg Address at battlefield cemetery
It would be difficult to argue for a more historic or significance speech from the 19th century, let alone the Civil War. As it was not printed in all newspapers of the day, this report with the full text of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address remains one of the more desired issues by collectors.
Page 2 contains an article headed "Consecration Of The Gettysburg Cemetery" giving considerable detail on the events. Edward Everett was the featured speaker and his lengthy speech is printed here in full. Almost as an afterthought, Lincoln closed out the ceremonies with his brief--yet very significant--speech. It is headed: "A Closing Address by President Lincoln" which includes a complete printing of his famous speech beginning: "Four score and seven years ago...".
A rare opportunity for a period printing of this notable speech.
Complete in four pages, very nice condition.
