Landis was just named the first commissioner of Major League Baseball a few months prior. The article begins: "Organized baseball in the United States yesterday virtually was brought under the control of Federal Judge Kenesaw M. Landis, for at least seven years when the drafting committee of the National Association of Minor Leagues officially voted approval of the new national agreement...".
