THOMAS'S MASSACHUSETTS SPY OR WORCESTER GAZETTE, Nov. 7, 1798  Over a full column on the ftpg. is "A Proclamation" by the governor of Massachusetts for a day of public thanksgiving.
Page 3 has a letter "To George Washington, Lieut. General and Commander in chief of the American forces" expressing their appreciation for him accepting the post.
Washington accepted the position and served as the senior officer of the U.S. Army from July 13, 1798 until his death seventeen months later. He participated in the planning for a provisional army to meet any emergency that might arise, but avoided involvement in details as much as possible; he delegated most of the work, including leadership of the army, to Hamilton.
Four pages,never bound nor trimmed, nice condition.
