NEW YORK WEEKLY DAY-BOOK CAUCASIAN, July 15, 1865
* Abraham Lincoln assassination
* Execution of the conspirators
* Mary Surratt and others
A decidedly racist newspaper which began well before the Civil War & lasted a few years after. As such their reporting on events of the day provide a contrasting perspective beyond most other Northern newspapers.
Over half of the front page is taken up with much detail on the execution of the Lincoln conspirators. The first column is headed: "EXECUTION of the Alleged Conspirators" "Hanging of Payne, Harrold, Atzerodt and Mrs. Surratt". Various subheads as well including; "The Proceedings on the Scaffold" "The Procession to the Gallows" "Application For Pardon--Earnestness of Mrs. Surratt's Daughter" and more.
Page 2 has the details on the: "Assassination Trial - The Finding of the Court Martial" during which the four were found guilty, with their sentences.
Eight pages, very nice condition.
