April 29, 1865

NEW YORK WEEKLY DAY-BOOK CAUCASIAN, April 29, 1865

* President Abraham Lincoln funeral
* In a pro-white, racist publication

A decidedly racist newspaper which began well before the Civil War & lasted a few years after. As such their reporting on war events provide a contrasting perspective beyond most other Northern newspapers.
The front page has a wealth of pro-South reports with heads such as: "Free & Slave Labor Mutually Aid Each Other" "The Abolitionists are Disunionists, Secessionists Are Nullifiers" "Negroes Not Included in the Declaration of Independence" "Interference of Slavery in the States A Breach of Faith" and even more.
Pages 2 and 5 switch gears with a wealth of report on the Lincoln funeral: "Further About the Great Tragedy" "The Funeral of the Late President" "Letter of J. Wilkes Booth" "Account of the Booth Family" "The Funeral Pageant" "The Journey From Washington" "Arrival of the Remains in New York".
Eight pages, nice condition.
