George Washington accused of murder...

THE HERALD; A GAZETTE FOR THE COUNTRY, New York, March 18, 1797  Page 3 has an article beginning: "The Aurora, which had accused Gen. Washington during his administration of corruption, peculation and almost every crime as soon as his administration closed, charged him with being guilty of murder. This charge is, like many of the lies in that paper, take from the French. It seems that in the last French war of 1754, when George Washington was a major..." with much more on the situation.
This is followed by a report mentioning: "...crowded audience witnessed the commencement of Mr. Rickett's grand display in his new and elegant Circus...". Rickett's circus was the first circus in the United States.
The back page has a letter signed by the governor of New York: John Jay, who was also the first Chief Justice of the United States before becoming New York's 2nd governor.
Four pages, very nice condition.
