November 19, 1864
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, New York, Nov. 19, 1864 Inside has an editorial headed: "The Citizen's Great Duty" which begins: "Abraham Lincoln, of Illinois, has been re-elected President of the United States by a large popular majority...The election passed off peaceably..." and goes on to exhort how it is the duty of every American to pledge support for the government. A few other bits: "...obedience is absolutely requisite to the permanent safety & prosperity of the Republic, for unless this government be upheld by the united strength of the people its destruction will ensue; order will give place to anarchy, and anarchy will be succeeded by a despotic power..." and additional comments concerning the war.
Some war-related reports on other pages.
Sixteen pages, some foxing to the mentioned page only, generally nice condition.
