THE YORK DISPATCH, Pennsylvania,  Feb. 3, 1959

* Death of rock & roll stars
* Buddy Holly, the "Big Bopper" and Richie Valens
* "The Day the Music Died"

The death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the "Big Bopper" from the early rock and roll era is not commonly found in period newspapers, unfortunately. And when found the reports are typically brief and relegated to an inside page.
This issue has the report at the top of the front page with a column head: "Ritchie Valens, Two Others Die In Plane Crash". The report begins: "Three rock 'n' roll singing idols, whose records and appearances stirred millions of teenagers, were killed today in a cold, snow-swept Iowa field. They were Buddy Holly, 22, Ritchie Valens, 17, J.P. 'Big Bopper' Richardson, 24, and Roger Peterson, 32, the pilot..." with a bit more on their careers.
The event became known as "the day the music died" after singer-songwriter Don McLean referred to it as such in his 1971 song "American Pie".
Complete in 38 pages, light toning, nice condition.
