1945 USS Ticonderoga... Japanese kamikaze attacks....
Item # 666207
July 20, 1945
CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, July 20, 1945
* USS Ticonderoga - Essex-class aircraft carrier
* Japanese kamikazes - South Japanese Islands
Te top of page 3 has a one column heading: "TICONDEROGA'S SKIPPER TELLS HOW SHE WAS HIT" with photo of the carrier's commander. This is on the Japanese kamikaze attacks on the USS Ticonderoga during the attacks on the South Japanese islands. Reporting on many disasters such as this were kept from the public, sometimes for many months, until the family members of the killed were all notified, giving the reason for this late report. Still a first report. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Complete with all 26 pages, printing flaw affects first word in heading (see), library stamp within the masthead, small binding holes along the spine, generally very nice.
