Depression era continues in 1932...

Item # 660703

August 13, 1932

THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 13, 1932

* Depression era continues
* Stocks crash - Dow declines

The front page has one column headlines that include: "STOCK BREAK CHECKS MONTH'S STEADY RISE", "Expected Reaction, Attributed to 'Speculative Excesses,' Marks Last Hour of Trading" and more. (see) This was one of the steepest declines in market history. This decline squelched the hopes that the depression was coming to an end. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication, especially on this topic.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 30 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A little residue along the spine from disbinding, very nice condition.
