The very first World Cup soccer championship game...

Item # 655679

July 31, 1930

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, July 31, 1930

* Very 1st World Cup soccer championship game

This issue of the Times reports the final game of the very first World Cup tournament. With soccer being a somewhat unknown sport in the United States at the time, it is exceedingly difficult to find any 1930 reports of the World Cup in American newspapers, coverage lacking in several major city publications.
The bottom of the front page of the sport's section (page 17) has a brief report with a small, discrete heading: "Uruguay Beats Argentines for World's Soccer Title" (see) A cornerstone piece for any soccer collection as any items from the very first World Cup are almost unobtainable today. This is one.
Complete with all 32 pages, this is the "rag edition" printed on very high quality newsprint meant for institutional holdings. In great condition as such, a few small binding holes at the spine.
