October 16, 1783

DREWRY'S DERBY MERCURY, England, Oct. 16, 1783  The Treaty which ended the Revolutionary War, referred to as the Treaty of Paris, was formalized on Sept. 3, 1783 in Versailles. It was actually a four-part treaty, separate agreements between England and the United States, France, Spain, and The Netherlands. The formal approval required that all parties be in agreement.
This issue contains two of those four treaties, page one has: "The Definitive Treaty of Peace and Friendship, Between his Britannick Majesty and the Most Christian King [France], Signed at Versailles, the 3d of September, 1783." This document takes almost the entire page. Beginning on page 1 & concluding on page 2 is: "The Definitive Treaty of Peace and Friendship Between His Britannic Majesty and the King of Spain, Signed at Versailles the 3d day of Sept., 1783".
Page 2 also has: "The expected Orders for the evacuation of New York were immediately dispatched on the arrival of the Definitive Treaty, which contained directions to Sir Guy Carleton to effect the evacuation  ...will be compleated by the end of this month."
Four pages, red tax stamp on the ftpg., nice condition.
