August 11, 1930

NEW YORK TIMES, August 11, 1930  This is a significant issue for any Disney or Mickey Mouse collector, as it contains the very first mention of Mickey Mouse in the prestigious New York Times.
The mention appears on the entertainment page (pg. 13) under the heading: "The Screen" with the reference reading: "...and others, produced by the Terra-Ton-Film; Chaplin's old comedy "Carmen"; "Mickey Mouse" cartoon; Chocolate-Berg fight film...".
Obviously quite an inconspicuous mention but very significant being the first appearance of "Mickey Mouse" in the pages of this famous newspaper, using the current spelling. Micky Mouse was mentioned in 1928, but was not originally advertised as such (the review for Steamboat Willie mentioned in 1928 that the character would henceforth be called Micky Mouse).
The complete issue of 34 pages, nice condition.
