April 06, 1841

NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., March 6 and April 6 1841  Simply a terrific pair of issues on the inauguration and--just one month later--the death of President William Henry Harrison. The significance of this pair is that it's a Washington, D.C. newspaper, the city where Harrisoin was inaugurated and died.
The March 6 issue has most of the front page taken up with: "The Inaugural Address of Gen. William Henry Harrison" of March 4. Page 3 has some editorial commentary concerning the inauguration. Page 4 has very lengthy detailed headed: "The Inauguration" which takes nearly half of the page.
The April 6 issue has black borders throughout the four pages due to the President's death. The top of the first column on the front page begins: "An all-wise Providence having suddenly removed from this life William Henry Harrison, late President of the United States, we have thought it our duty, in the recess of Congress & in the absence of the Vice President from the seat of government, to make this afflicting bereavement known to the country by this declaration under our hands. He died at the President's House in this city, this fourth day of April..." with more (see). It is signed in type by the Secretary of State, Daniel Webster, and 3 others.
Also on the ftpg. are: "Arrangements For The Funeral" "Report of the Physicians". There is much more inside, with page 3 having the: "Arrangements For the  Interment of the Late President" which includes a graphic representation of the funeral with the position of the coffin & the pall bearers (see).
Both issues are complete in 4 pages and in very nice condition.
