THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, July 31, 1783

* Revolutionary War ending events

Most of the ftpg. is taken up with details of the recapture of the Bahama Islands by the British, including a prefacing letter noting: "I transmit...a copy of Col. Deveaux's letter conveying an account of the Recapture of the Bahama Islands, together with a copy of the capitulation..." signed in type: Guy Carleton. What follows is the detailed letter signed: A. Deveaux, and the details of the surrender.
Page 2 has several nice American items including: "...to adopt some expedient for giving relief to the large number of unfortunate Loyalists now assembled in St.  Augustine, the capital of West Florida..." and "...letters from Georgia and South Carolina we find that the evacuation of these two colonies has not restored peace to the inhabitants, who thought  that nothing but Independence was wanted...". Also from Paris: "That able and ingenious veteran, Dr. Franklin, is preparing to leave this city (where he has resided five years with great credit to himself, and profit to his country) to return to America...will be succeeded in his public character by Mr. Laurens...".
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
