Three great plates on the Seven Years' War...

Item # 642780 THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, August, 1759  Of prime interest are the 3 full page plates on the Seven Years' War, the first titled: "A Map of the Part of Westphalia in which the French Army Were Defeated , Aug. 1, 1759" which shows much details (see), the plate titled: "Line of Battle of the Allied Army Before the Engagement on the First of August, 1759", plus another full page plate titled: "Plan of the Battle of Thornhausen from the Original Published at Hanover by Order of the Regency", which shows much detail as well (see). All of this relates to the Seven Years' War going on in Europe at the time, of which the French & Indian War in America was a part.
Among the articles in this issue are: "Effect of a Thunder Storm", "Description of a New Invented Easy Chair for Deaf Persons" which includes a full page plate with text on how it works, plus much more. Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" with current news of the day.
Complete in 46 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, measures 6 by 8 3/4 inches with wide, never-trimmed margins, very nice condition
A very nice magazine from the French & Indian War era with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
