April 21, 1928
THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 21, 1928
* Felix Huston Robertson death
* Confederate States Army general
* Only native-born Texan rebel general
* Last surviving general of the Confederacy
The top of the front page 17 has a one column heading: "GEN. ROBERTSON DIES AT AGE OF 88" with subheads. (see) First report coverage on the death of Felix Huston Robertson, last surviving general of the Confederacy. I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this particular event as other titles in our inventory do not.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 36 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A few small binding slits along the spine, very nice condition.
