December 13, 1883
ST. LOUIS GLOBE-DEMOCRAT, Dec. 13, 1883 Page 4 has: "Admission of Utah as a State" which includes: "...if Congress were in a proper frame of mind to consider it justly, would be one of the wisest measures that could be adopted....The question of polygamy will cut no figure in the admission of Utah as it is not recognized in the Constitution & would form no part of state politics..." with more. This is followed by: "The Mormon Problem" which has: "...leading citizen of this place says the Mormons regard the reference to polygamy...as a menace to their political power & their theocratic control of territories..." with more on polygamy. Utah would not join the union until 1896, in part due to the polygamy issue.
Twelve pages, very nice condition.
