Hayes-Wheeler ticket... Wyoming Seminary (SEM) advertisement...

Item # 629532

November 06, 1876

THE MORNING REPUBLICAN, Scranton, Pennsylvania, November 6, 1876

* The Hayes-Wheeler ticket
* Wounded vets to not receive promised compensation
* Illustrated Wyoming Seminary advertisement from the Levi Sprague era

This interesting report on the front page regarding wounded soldiers not receiving their promised compensation, multiple reports on the election 1876 throughout, a printing of the Rutherford B Hayes - William A. Wheeler ticket, and a large illustrated ad (5 1/2 by 8 inches) for the Wyoming Commercial College - being a branch of the Wyoming Seminary (both lower and upper education preparatory schools) - today known lovingly by the locals as SEM. Nice to have both the election ticket on the day of the election, and the SEM ad in a Scranton paper. The Wyoming Christian College ad also shows the name of Levi Sprague, shown as L. L. Sprague as the contact.
Complete in 4 pages, only minor edge tears, in overall very nice condition.
Note: As a historical item of note, the first night football game is credited to have been played between the Mansfield State Normal School and Wyoming Seminary in 1892.
