THE SPRINGFIELD UNION, Massachusetts, September 30, 1954

* Willie Mays "The Catch"
* World Series of baseball
* New York Giants

In the world of sports history--and certainly in baseball history--an event which ranks high on the list of most historic moments is "the catch" by Willie Mays during the first game of the 1954 Major League Baseball World Series. It was the eighth inning and the score was tie at 2-2, two runners on, and Giants' center fielder Willie Mays, who was playing in shallow center field, made an on-the-run over-the-shoulder catch on the warning track to make the out. The Giants would go on to win the game, and the World Series.
The front page has a three column headline: "Giants Capture World Series Opener in 10th" with subheads and photo which show Willie Mays. (see) Much more in the sport's section with headlines, photos and loads of text. Page 35 has a two column pictorial of  Willie Mays' famous catch with heading: "Sequence On Mays' Catch"  and more.
The complete 40 page issue, minor margin wear, generally nice.
