THE NEW YORK TIMES, January 20, 1966  The front page of the issue contains a four-column wide headline "Mrs. Gandhi, Nehru's Daughter, Is Chosen India's Third Prime Minister" and includes a large photo of her being escorted into the New Delhi Parliament building. Another article "India's Prime Minister - Indira Nehru Gandhi" is on page 19.
Page 22 has a small article pertaining to Dr. Martin Luther King sending his top aide to Birmingham to help organize demonstrations protesting alleged voter registration discrimination and also to map strategy for mass demonstrations against segregated Southern schools.
On the opposite page is a nearly full page advertisement seeking support for Julian Bond, who was an African-American elected to the Georgia House of Representatives after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But the State representatives voted 184-12 not to seat him due to his affiliation with Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He took this matter to higher courts in order to be seated.
Other news, sports and advertisements are within.
Complete in 72 pages with several small binding holes along the left spine, otherwise in nice condition.
