November 16, 1938

THE NEW YORK TIMES, November 16, 1938

* Kristallnacht - crystal night
* Persecution of Jews

A follow up to "Kristallnacht" or Night of Broken Glass, a coordinated attack upon Nazi Jews which resulted in 91 deaths and over 30,000 being sent to concentration camps. The 3 line headline reads: "ROOSEVELT CONDEMNS NAZI OUTBREAK; 'COULD SCARCELY BELIEVE' IT, HE SAYS; LONDON STUDIES JEWISH COLONIZATION" with various subheads. The coverage carries over to page 6. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 48 pages, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
