THE NEW YORK TIMES, June 1, 1942

* Sydney Harbor, Australia attacked
* Imperial Japanese Navy - midget submarines
* Cologne, Germany RAF bomber attack

The front page has a two column heading: "3 Midget Submarines Raid Sydney; All Believed Sunk" 1st report coverage on the attack of Sydney Harbor in Australia by submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Also a banner headline that reads: "1,000 BRITISH BOMBERS SET COLOGNE ON FIRE" with subheads. (see) Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and various advertisements of the day with much more on World War II. Complete in 28 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
