THE NEW YORK TIMES, May 1, 1941

* Opening night for the movie Citizen Kane
* Orson Welles - release date  (1st report)

Page 27 has a great advertisement for the opening night of the movie classic 'Citizen Kane' starring Orson Welles. (see)
Also on the same page are one column headings that include: "PREMIERE TONIGHT FOR 'CITIZEN KANE'" "Orson Welle's First Picture, in Which He is Also Starred, Will Open at Palace"
Through research of this movie, the release date for this movie in the United States was on May 1, 1941 with the first showing to be at the Palace Theater in New York City. This is exactly what this ad and report says making it a very historic item in movie memorabilia. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication, especially here as NYC papers would be the only titles to have this in. The movie 'Citizen Kane' consistently ranks at the top of most polls of the top movies of all time.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 48 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A little spine residue due to disbinding, nice condition.
