PERFECT OCCURRENCES OF EVERY DAIE JOURNALL IN PARLIAMENT: Proceedings of the Councell of State: And other Moderate Intelligence From His Excellency the Lord Generall Fairfax's Army..., London, July 20, 1649   This is certainly one of the less common "newsbooks" predecessors of today's newspapers, done somewhat in pamphlet format but with a set date and the issues consecutively numbered & published on a regular schedule, making them periodicals.
The first letter in the ftpg. text is surrounded with a very ornate engraving (see).
This is from the period of the English Civil War, so not surprisingly much of the content within this issue is political & military related. One brief item relating to deferred business for the following week included: "The bill for New England." which is very rare mention of the "new world" in a periodical, this date being just 29 years after the Pilgrims landed (see). Another report begins: "We have taken one of Prince Ruperts frigots..." with more (see). Prince Rupert was the Royalist commander of the English Civil War (1642–51). His tactical genius and daring as a cavalry officer brought him many victories early in the war, but his forces eventually were overcome by the more highly disciplined Parliamentary army.
Complete in 16 pages, 6 by 8 inches, even toning and minimal edge wear, generally very nice condition.
