August 29, 1963

DAILY CHICAGO DEFENDER, August 29, 1963  A fantastic issue, as this is an African-American newspaper reporting on the famous Civil Rights March on Washington, D.C., where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his very famous speech (not printed here). The front page headline is terrific: "300,000 MARCH !  GREATEST DAY IN U.S. HISTORY". Several pages within report on the event & Chicagoans attending it.
In incomplete issue however containing all the pages with the March content. Included are pages 1-6, 9, 10, 13, 14, 23, 24, 27,28, 31-36. Tabloid-size, very nice, clean condition.
Not just terrific to have a report of this famous event (was seldom saved) but fantastic to have it in an African-American newspaper.
