* 14th Amendment - Tennessee ratifies
Page 5 has an article concerning Tennessee ratifying the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, with headings: "WASHINGTON" "ADMISSION OF TENNESSEE" "The Vote--Yeas 125, Nays 12" "The Resolution Tabled" and more. (see) The Fourteenth Amendment was approved by Congress on June 13, and on July 19 Tennessee ratified it, being the only Southern state to do so as all others rejected it. Congress later clarified its position and required ratification by the Southern states before readmission to the Union.
Other news of the day. Complete in eight pages, a little irregular along the spine, nice condition.
