September 22, 1798

THE SPECTATOR, New York, Sept. 22, 1798

* Yellow Fever epidemic

An unusual issue being single sheet rather than the typical 4 pages, explained at the top of the first column: "Our readers are respectfully informed that, in consequence of the continuance, and we are sorry to say, increase, of the prevailing Epidemic, we are under the necessity of printing but half a sheet. When the fever abates, it will be issued as usual." This is concerning the Yellow Fever Epidemic which ravaged much of the Eastern United States at that time. There are many front page articles relating to the epidemic as well.
The back page has a letter on response to: "The Boston Marine Society" signed in type by the President: John Adams.
Four pages, never-trimmed, nice condition.
