October 29, 1863
THE KANSAS STATE JOURNAL, Lawrence, October 29, 1863 Page three has an official Proclamation for a Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer, signed by Thomas Carney, governor, Kansas. The text begins, "In observance of a universal custom, as old as the Commonwealth of the Union, I Thomas Carney, Governor of the State of Kansas, do hereby designate and set apart Thursday, the 26th day of November, next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Prayer... let us assemble in our customary places of worship, and render thanks to Almighty God..."
Page two has, "The Lawrence Sufferers and the Railroads", being an article discussing the various forms of aid pouring in to the region to help the victims of the infamous Lawrence Massacre, which had occurred a few months previous.
It's nice to have both reports in a Kansas paper.
Complete in 4 pages, some scattered staining, an archivally mended clean tear at the mid-fold, otherwise good.
