THE DAILY MONTANA POST, Helena, June 18, 1868

* Very rare Old West title
* 1st newspaper in Montana

A very rare newspaper and a terrific issue for any collection of the Old West. The very first newspaper in the Montana Territory was the Montana Post which began in 1864 in Virginia City. In 1868 the newspaper was moved to Helena and the volume numbering began again, so this is an early volume one issue (#52). Montana did not become a state until 1889.
A typically Western newspaper with a wealth of ads, and the front page has: "A Visit To The Whitlatch-Union Mills and Mines" "Walk of a Mile Through The Interior of the Ledge" "Its Incalculable Importance to Helena and Montana". Page 2 has a political notice supporting: "For President, GENERAL U.S. GRANT...".
Four pages, very nice condition.
