April 16, 1864
PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, April 16, 1864 Front page heads at the top of the first column concern the famous massacre at Fort Pillow: "Fiendish Slaughter" "Capture of Fort Pillow By The Rebels" "Horrible Barbarities Of The Rebels Reported" "Black & White Soldiers Murdered in Cold Blood" "Women & Children Killed" "Gen. Lee In Command Of The Rebels" "The Inhuman Massacre Indorsed by Chalmers" "Scene Of Most Horrible Butchery" "Negro Soldiers Buried Alive" "They Work Themselves Out of the Ground and are Saved" "The Rebels Shelled Out Of Paducah".
The front page also has a nice Civil War map: "Region of the Rebel Forrest's Operations" "The Capture of Fort Pillow--Scene of the Attack upon Paducah--Columbus Threatened by the Enemy--Route Taken by Forrest to Memphis."
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed, some wear at margins, generally good.
