August 23, 1856

FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED, New York, Aug. 23, 1856  The front page has a print: "Ferry at Council Bluffs--Mormon Emigrants and Group of Cottonwood Trees" with the balance of the front page (and a bit of pg. 2) taken up with an article: "Mormonism, and the Relation to the Union". Relating to this is a great doublepage illustration headed: "Great Salt Lake City, Utah, Chief city of the Mormons" which is a terrific & panoramic view of Salt Lake City (see). Also on this centerfold are smaller prints; "Well Against Which the Body of Joe Smith was Placed & Shot at After His Assassination" and "The Devil's Gate, Rocky Mountains". There are related articles for each of these 3 Mormon-related prints.
Elsewhere are two full pages on: "United States Infantry Tactics" with many related prints. Complete in 16 pages, never bound nor trimmed so it folds out to one large sheet, very nice, clean condition.
