MISSOURI REPUBLICAN, St. Louis, Sept. 9, 1881 The top of the middle column of the front page has a nice stack of heads concerning the Blue Cut train robbery, done by Jesse James and his gang, the heads including: "Running Them Down" "Three of the Train Robbers Now in Jail" "Found Skulking in the Woods with Evidence of Gui9lt on Them" "Prospects Are Reported as Good for More Arrests Very Soon" "A General Belief that the Captives will Tell All They Know" "Further Details of How the Outrage was Committed" with more (see). See the hyperlink for further details on the robbery.
The reporting is considerable, with much detail and have as subheads: "Details of the Robbery" "The Victims" with a lengthy list of names; "Pursuit' and more. The coverage takes close to three columns.
Terrific to have in a St. Louis newspaper as Glendale, the site of the robbery, is just over 12 miles from St. Louis. This is likely the closest newspaper to the event which could have reported, hence the lengthy coverage.
Complete in 8 pages, browning at the margins, some minor margin tears, generally good condition.
Note: The following addition was contributed by someone who contacted us upon seeing the description: "The article is in the St.Louis paper, but is by-lined from Kansas City. The town of Glendale was just a few miles east of Independence, MO - and about 12 miles east of Kansas City - at the time. Some other sites regarding the robbery show the route of the C&A RR, with the long-gone town of Glendale just outside of Kansas City/Independence. Also the "Blue Cut" refers to the Blue River that runs through the area."
